Skin and Electricity

Skin is the largest organ in the human body. The function of the skin is to protect the body and act as a natural repellent. Contrary to popular belief, every liquid or substance that we put on our body to help moisturize or protect it is not fully absorbed into the skin. If our skin was completely absorbent, our bodies would drown every time we took a shower!

Because the skin naturally rejects what we put on it, the only way we can truly affect the lower layers of our skin is to draw skin care solutions to the dermal tissue. Just as a doctor injects medicine into our bodies to treat a bodily ailment, it is also necessary to force skin care solutions into the skin to treat skin. The most effective way to accomplish this is by means of electricity.

Electricity is a valuable servant which, when used to introduce solutions into the skin, can help cleanse, hydrate and rejuvenate dermal tissue. The form of electrical current used in the medical field is generally known as "galvanic" current. For skin and facial treatments, the strength of this current is measured in milleamperes, or 1/1000th of an ampere. This is a very low-strength current, which is both safe and effective for skin application.

Galvanic Treatments

There are two types of galvanic skin treatments: positive and negative. These treatments are associated with the positive and negative polarities found in electricity. Just as a battery has positive and negative charges, so do galvanic machines. Click here to learn about Dermaculture's Iderm Galvanic/Vacuum Machine.

The effects of the positive treatment on the skin are just the opposite as the negative treatment. Positive treatments are used to firm the skin, tighten the pores, promote new cell growth, and soothe the tissue. Conversely, negative treatments are used to soften the skin and stimulate the circulation and nutrition of dry, pale or discolored skin. Negative treatments are commonly used on skin with serious acne conditions to loosen and deep clean the pores. Click here for more information on Dermaculture's Iderm® Deep Skin Ionization Process.

Dermaculture's Iderm treatment centers perform both the positive and negative treatments. Be sure to ask your clinician which treatment is best for your skin.
